Terminalia neotaliala

Terminalia neotaliala Capuron, Bull. Mus. Natl. Hist. Nat., Ser. 3, Bot. 11: 128. 1973; T. taliala H. Perrier, Ann. Mus. Colon. Marseille, Ser. 7, 1(1): 36. 1953.

Deciduous, medium-sized tree, 10-20 m tall (observed 7-8 m tall). Stem erect with straight bole, bark grey-brown, +/- smooth, mottled, branched, branches in prominent circular saucer-shaped layers giving conical appearance to trees. Leaves formed at the apex of newly formed branches, these leafy branches 3-4 cm long; leaves clustered at the apex of branches, congested, spirally arranged, 4-9 in number; petiole small, 2-3 mm long; leaf blade 3-7 cm x 1.5-3.5 cm, spathulate or obovate, apex rounded or emarginate, base attenuate, margin entire, sinuate or shallowly crenate; lateral veins 4-6 in number, in the axils of veins present domatia with conspicuous openings, domatial region protruding adaxially.

This species is introduced in this region only few years back, thus trees not old enough so as to produce flowers.
